A lot of people would think that there will be a problem with the long term food storage but that is not the case with dehydrated foods. But here are more tips on how one can ensure long term food storage for emergencies:

  • Come up with a list on what you want in your survival food storage or emergency food storage. It could comprise of dehydrated foods or even fresh food. Just make sure that you have a good mix of both to ensure long term food storage.
  • Make sure you have good airtight containers that would allow survival food storage. It is very important that you are good containers for emergency food storage. The containers need to be air tight so the dehydrated foods or anything else you wish to put inside the container will maintain its freshness. When you put any food inside the container, make sure that you dry the container very well for long term food storage.
  • For easy survival food storage, it is good to choose dehydrated foods or any kind of food that is easy to store. Dry goods are usually the best for emergency food storage. Choose whole grains like oats, rice beans which last a long time. If you keep these kinds of food for long term food storage, you will be sure that you will not have a hard time in case of an emergency.
  • Dried fruits are also good choices for survival food storage. Not only will they last long, but they taste good as well. They will serve as good sources of vitamins and minerals in case of any emergency. During an emergency you can be sure that these dehydrated foods will not spoil. If you do not want dried fruits, you can also preserve your own fruits by creating them into jams and keep them in your emergency food storage. By doing so, you will prolong the fruit’s shelf life and widen your choices of food.
  • To make sure that you have protein, also pile up on nuts. You have a lot of choices for nuts. Use these nuts to give you the protein your body needs. During an emergency, you might not get a hold of meat. So make sure that you have some nuts around.
  • For storage of seafood, it will also be good to dry fish. If you are familiar with any procedure wherein you can dry the fish, make use of this to be able to store your fish. You can also do the same with meat to avoid spoilage.

Make use of these tips to be able to keep your food intact in case of an emergency. Just always remember to keep the lids of the containers very tights. Make sure no water goes in. Also check them regularly to see if there is any spoilage. That way you can throw out spoiled food and replace it with new fresh food. It might be a little tiresome to do so. But just spend a bit of time to do it to ensure food for future emergencies.
